WD TV Live

NFS Share Problems

There are some issues with the WD TV live with Networking. I'm not sure what the root cause is, but a packet capture is attached at the bottom of this page to allow people to take a look at it.

So, here is how i got the WD TV Live to see your NFS share repeatedly with firmware 2.01.86:

Set up WD for dhcp, enable NFS, etc.

power off with remote

Now, every time you have trouble:

remove power plug. (cold boot), plug back in

Once booted, check FIles/Video/Music

select network share

select linux server

wait 30 seconds… nothing

back out to main screen

setup -> network settings -> network setup -> wired -> automatic

says fails, but wait 30 seconds after it says it fails. Then retry.

It now says networking successful

If you want to, check and see if video is available.

check video, says source not available

select network share

select linux server

wait 30 seconds… nothing

back out

If it is not:

power off with button on remote

wait 30 seconds

power on with button on remote

check video, says source not available

select network share

select linux server

wait 30 seconds… nothing

back out

back out to main screen

setup -> network settings -> network setup -> wired -> automatic

says fails, but wait 30 seconds after it says it fails. Then retry.

It now says networking successful

Check Videos

working.

Other strange notes:

The device spams ARP requests to every IP on the subnet it thinks it is on. If dhcp fails, this appears to be the self-assigned 169. /16 network! And when switching from static to dynamic IP, it thinks that IP config had not succeeded!
